Little River Winery – Wine Tasting

           MUMFEST – Oct 8-9

When thinking about MUMFEST, most everyone thinks about all the free entertainment, music, amusement park rides, magicians and street performers and great food. Oh yes – lots of great food, and to go with the great food, Mumfesters age 21 and older will be able to sample a wide variety of wines produced from grapes grown in the foothills of North Carolina’s Uhwarrie Mountain Range courtesy of the Little River Winery. Little River’s mobile wine tasting room, the only one of its kind in North Carolina, and only one of a few in the country, will be located midway down the 300 block of Craven Street.

The Little River Winery uses old world European wine making techniques to produce their wines. This approach to winemaking allows them to produce high quality wines with a hint of the old world combined with the best of today’s winemaking techniques. Their grapes have a distinctive regional character that adds to the wine’s personality and intensity. The combination of chalk, clay and gravel proves a unique influence and earthy flavor to the wines.

Little River specializes in traditional wines such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. They also have a line of fruit wines that have proven very popular.

A New Look for MUMFEST ‘11

On the downtown streets and waterfront in historic New Bern, NC

The MUMFEST Festival Committee is pleased to present the 2011 poster and logo designed by Trade Ideas, LLC featuring New Bern’s City Hall Clock Tower and the Bear Plaza Bear sculpture, both well-loved downtown landmarks.

Trade Ideas, LLC specializes in consulting and design services with a focus on graphic design, website design and development, advertising, and corporate branding. When asked to work on the design for the MUMFEST poster, Shannon LuQuire, Trade Ideas’ owner, was up to the challenge.

LuQuire grew up in New Bern, so including those iconic images that everyone could recognize was an important part of the design. “For so many of us, MUMFEST is such an important part of who we are as New Bernians,” she says. “We all want to be part of something that makes us proud and having so many things like that around us is really special.” Capturing the essence of the annual festival was task number one. Looking through old pictures, walking around downtown, and thinking of what I remember most as a child coming to the festival was an integral part of the design process. Pulling all that information together and coming up with an engaging design is where our team does such a great job.

Mark your calendar and plan to attend the 31st annual MUMFEST, October 8-9.  MUMFEST is an award-winning combination of fantasy and fun attracting over 80,000 visitors to New Bern’s revitalized historic downtown and waterfront. MUMFEST fills the streets with exciting entertainment, everyone’s favorite foods, and great shopping. From New Bern’s waterfront to the gardens at Tryon Palace, MUMFEST is more than a festival – it’s an extravaganza!

NEW BERN ROTARY CLUB PARTNERS WITH SWISS BEAR

New Bern’s Noon/Luncheon Rotary Club and Swiss Bear Downtown Development Corporation are working together to raise funds in support of the Rotary Club’s community service projects.

Area businesses may show their support by sponsoring a MUMFEST banner, which will have their company’s name displayed on the banner for $150. The banners are made of vinyl and measure 22” x 37”.  The banners are hung from downtown streetlights for approximately six weeks beginning in mid-September. The banners then become the property of the sponsor to display in their business.

This popular fundraiser supports such Community Service projects as awarding college scholarships, and giving sizable grants to the Salvation Army, RCS, Merci Clinic, YMCA, Creekside Park, and Habitat for Humanity.

Because the opportunity to sponsor a banner ends on July 30th local area businesses should contact John Kirkland, Noon Rotary Banner Chairman, (252.633.1363) or speak to Swiss Bear soon (252.638.5781). Banner applications may be downloaded at www.mumfest.com by clicking on the banner-merchandising button near the top of the homepage.
